Dragon boat racing

Dragonboat racing is a feature race on the events calendar at the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Castlereagh.

According to the official website of Dragon Boats NSW Inc ‘Dragon boating is a fast, fun and furious team based paddling sport. Its origins can be traced back 2500 years ago to ancient China where races played an important role during religious ceremonies and festivals’.

Penrith’s team is Pendragons

From their website:

Pendragons is a competitive Dragon Boat Club dedicated to the development of Dragon boat racing in Sydney’s Greater West. Pendragons were founded in 2002. We are a relatively small club that is very competitive at all levels in the Metropolitan competition. Our paddlers come from many and varied backgrounds and ages. A friendly supportive club that puts as much emphasis on the social as it does in the boat.  It boasts both NSW and Australian representatives that have competed in International Championships against 62 other countries.

In 2011 the Pendragons qualified for the 8th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) being held on 4th-8th July 2012 in the Victoria Harbour, East Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong (HK). Based on our results at the Aus Championships in Canberra in April 2011 we qualified in the 10s boat for Masters Open and Masters Mixed. This is a first for our club.
