Colonial Secretary’s Office ST. MARYS – PETITION FOR A MUNICIPALITY. HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, directs the publication, in accordance with the “Municipalities Act of 1867,” of the substance and prayer of a Petition addressed to His Excellency, and signed by 138 persons, praying that their locality therein described may be erected into a Municipality under the name of the “Municipal District of St. Mary’s” HENRY PARKES, The Petitioners state that they are persons who, upon incorporation, would be liable to be assessed for Municipal rates in respect of property or household residence. That the population of the proposed Municipality is not less than 500, and the area thereof about 28 square miles. That the following are the boundaries proposed, viz.: Situated in the county of Cumberland, parishes of Claremont, Londonderry, Melville, and Rooty Hill: Commencing at the crossing of the road from the Cow Pasture to Richmond, over the Great Western Railway; and bounded thence by that road bearing northerly to its intersection with the north boundary of James Kernahan’s 102 acres, in the parish of Londonderry; thence by that northern boundary and the north boundaries of Elizabeth King’s 610 acres, and Philip King’s 660 acres, bearing easterly to Rope’s Creek; thence by that creek upwards to the south-east corner of James Erskine’s 3,000 acres, parish of Melville ; thence by the south boundary of that 3,000 acres, the south boundaries of Gregory Blaxland’s; 2,000 acres, Henry Fulton’s 400 acres, and part of William Bradley’s 400 acres bearing westerly to the road from the Cow Pasture to Richmond aforesaid; and thence again by that road bearing northerly, to the point of commencement. Your Petitioners therefore humbly pray that your Excellency will be pleased to grant the incorporation of the above area in accordance with the provisions of the “Municipalities Act of 1867,” and your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
